When our family moved to Ohio and joined the wonderful Fairborn Ward Sister Vernon was the Nursery Leader and a wonderful one! There is no denying that she loved those little ones and they loved her! She was full of the Spirit with a kind, cheerful and welcoming voice and face. She was thoughtful to pick up toys at the thrift store that her Nursery children would enjoy playing with. She also had such fun and creative lessons, for example baby Moses in a basket where the children took turns being the baby in the basket or pushing the basket into the “water”. It was obvious that she really cared.
I appreciated a time when Sister Vernon was at my home and she shared some personal experiences and advice with me that was so helpful. I remember her yummy homemade cheesecakes that took her so much time to make. I even got the recipes from her! I loved her honest and kind nature! I admired her laughter even during that first difficult round of treatments—she came to Enrichment wearing a cute little Halloween wig. What a lady!
To the Vernon family we send our love and sympathies. You are blessed to have such a matriarch in your family—we know it will go on and on! May the Lord send Comfort.
Love,

We, too, were blessed to know Sister Vernon while we lived in the Fairborn Ward. She was my son's Nursery Leader and he loved her so much! She was always smiling and showing love towards others. We send our sympathies to the Vernon family and want them to know how much she meant to us and our family.

I always loved the way I felt around Helen. She had a talent for making me feel as if I was the most important person in the world. When I spoke with her I could feel her sincere interest and concern about my life. And as I got to know her and saw her interact with others, I could see that she had the same effect on just about everyone she met. I will always be grateful for her kind words and encouragement on many occasions.

I also admired Helen's ability to be in what seemed like constant motion--serving her family, serving in the church, working at the thrift shop, and goodness knows what else. She was always up to something good! She is definitely on my list of "people I want to be like when I (finally)grow up."

I especially appreciate Helen's sense of humor and ability to be positive in the face of great tribulation. I will never forget the day she showed up at church wearing her shiny, silver wig.

I am so grateful to have known Helen and to have had her touch my life in such a positive way.

Jim, Michael, Matthew, Rebecca and Rachel - we love you. May you take comfort in knowing that Helen's wonderful influence will go on in the lives of those whom she served and loved throughout her life. And may you feel joy in the knowledge that you will one day be reunited with her.

Love-
Rainey (& Todd) Christofferson

We are so sorry to hear of Sister Vernon's passing and are including you all in our prayers. Jim and Helen were some of the first Church leaders we got to know when we were baptized in 1977 in Berlin - your wonderful example sure helped us get started in the right direction! Thank you so much.
